OBJECTIVES OF THE KEMPELEN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES FOUNDATION
The Foundation aims to establish effective professional cooperation between scientists, professors, and experts of Hungarian birth or origin living in different countries in order to promote the advancement of science, innovation, and higher education in Hungary. The Foundation actively cultivates the spirit of Géza Szőcs, writer, poet, natural scientist, technical sciences, and innovation, the spiritual father of the Academy of Sciences, and to preserve and perpetuate his memory in a manner worthy of his legacy. It also carries on and implements the activities deemed important and described in its founding charter.
Activities of the Foundation
- They propose projects that can be implemented in Hungary and bring significant benefits to the Hungarian economy, the successful implementation of which can give the country a competitive advantage and create foreign markets. In this work, the Foundation cooperates with Hungarian organizations that carry on its legacy of supporting innovation.
- The founders and members provide professional advice upon request and offer high-quality assistance in their areas of expertise. Their expert opinion is independent and strictly evaluates the merits of the project, its originality, feasibility, and degree of maturity.
- They participate in the Science Meeting held regularly in Hungary, where they engage in interdisciplinary discussions on current trends in science and innovations that can be embraced and/or applied in Hungary and the Carpathian Basin. Participation in the Science Meeting can be physical or virtual.
- They make proposals for the organization of interdisciplinary conferences and the introduction of university and high school level courses.
- The founders and members of the Foundation mediate in establishing contacts with professionals working at foreign universities and research institutes. They make proposals for cooperation with international professional organizations and civil society organizations and provide assistance in promoting Carpathian Basin innovations abroad on a wide scale.
- It strives to establish close and institutional relationships with Hungarian professionals and organizations around the world, ensuring the promotion and dissemination of Hungarian innovations, scientific achievements, and collaborations, as well as strengthening Hungarian identity. It creates opportunities for Hungarian professionals living abroad and those living in Hungary to get to know each other and establish cooperation.
- The Foundation supports projects that can be implemented in Hungary and bring significant benefits to the Hungarian economy, the successful implementation of which can give the country a competitive advantage and create foreign markets.
- It assists in the regular evaluation of scientific achievements, the dissemination and utilization of results, the organization of scientific meetings, the announcement of competitions, and the awarding of prizes. It supports the dissemination, promotion, and application of innovative technologies and achievements.
- It develops, implements, and supports training and research programs in the field of innovation. It supports the further training of educators, university and college teachers, and practicing professionals participating in training in the fields of science and technology, research and development, innovation, and modernization in Hungary and abroad.
- It recognizes and encourages professionals who have achieved outstanding scientific and/or innovative achievements by establishing awards. Among these, the establishment of the Géza Szőcs Professional Award stands out, with two awards being presented and donated each year. These are: (i) a professional lifetime achievement award and (ii) a youth award.
- It supports the publication of professional books and journals with expert opinions and letters of recommendation, and promotes the publication of professional books, journals, and other publications, providing financial support for these to the extent possible.
- It supports talent development and the innovation-related activities of young scientists. To this end, it promotes the modernization of teaching methods and cooperation between universities. It supports the applications of Hungarian researchers, university lecturers, and students with letters of recommendation or, if possible, provides institutional support for the implementation of applications in cooperation with foreign entities.

Nature of the foundation
Any domestic or foreign natural or legal person may join the foundation after the board of trustees has approved their membership and they have made the financial contribution required by the board of trustees. Unless the board of trustees decides otherwise, joining the foundation does not qualify the member as a founder, and the member may not exercise founder’s rights. However, the member has the right to make proposals to the board of trustees regarding the use of their financial contribution. However, if, based on the decision of the board of trustees, the joining party is entitled to exercise founder’s rights, it may exercise those rights jointly with other persons entitled to exercise them after joining.
The foundation does not engage in direct political activity, its organization is independent of political parties, it does not provide financial support to political parties, and it does not accept financial support from political parties.
