Hungarian–Australian mathematician, historian of science, university professor

Dénes Nagy is a Hungarian–Australian mathematician, historian of science,
and university professor. He began his academic career at Eötvös Loránd
University (ELTE) in Budapest.
Academic Career and International Appointments
His subsequent academic appointments were held at the following institutions:
- Arizona State University, Tempe (1986–1988)
- University of the South Pacific, Suva (1989–1993)
- University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba Science City (1993–2000)
In 2001, he was appointed Honorary Research Professor at the
Australian Research and Development Institute in Melbourne.
Scientific and Public Engagement
He is the founding President of SIS-Symmetry
(International Society for the Interdisciplinary Study of Symmetry).
Since 1989, the society has organized interdisciplinary congresses and
exhibitions integrating art and science every three years across
five continents.
In recognition of his scholarly and public contributions, he has received
numerous honors and awards, including:
- Doctor honoris causa
- Honorary Membership of SEMA
- Pro Scientia absoluta vera Award
- Katachi Award
In 2012, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the
Republic of Hungary by the President of Hungary.
Lectures and Publications
He has delivered invited lectures in more than 20 countries,
in six languages.
His publication record includes 27 volumes and 185 scholarly papers,
published in English, Hungarian, German, French, Japanese, Chinese, Russian,
Ukrainian, Slovenian, and Persian.
He served as co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Hungarian Scientists.
His co-authors and editorial collaborators include Nobel laureates
Eugene P. Wigner and Danny Shechtman,
as well as physicist Kodai Husimi and historian
László Makkai.
